LGBTQ Pride Month and the True Colors Fund

Posted: Jun 04 2018

We're celebrating LGBTQ Pride Month with a new collection of socks, tote, and tees. And 10% of all sales from June 4, 2018 - June 10, 2018 will be donated to the True Colors Fund!

The True Colors Fund was co-founded by Cyndi Lauper in 2008 with the mission of preventing and ending LGBTQ youth homelessness. Studies have shown that up to 40% of all youth experiencing homelessness in America are LGBTQ, and a more recent study (Missed Opportunities: Youth Homelessness in America) states that LGBTQ young people are 120% more likely to experience homelessness than their non-LGBTQ peers. Commonly cited reasons for this include family rejection, family conflict/abuse, and poverty.

The True Colors Fund does their work in three ways:

Training & Education: They have developed a suite of remote and on-the-ground tools to educate service providers on why LGBTQ youth homelessness happens and what they can do to make their spaces and programs more inclusive. We also engage in long-term partnerships with communities to help them create and implement strategic plans around ending youth homelessness.

Advocacy: They work with the federal government and state policymakers to advocate for funding and programs that protect LGBTQ youth who are at-risk of or currently experiencing homelessness.

Youth Collaboration: They partner directly with LGBTQ young people who have experienced homelessness firsthand through our six-month True Colors Fellowship and National Youth Forum on Homelessness so that they can play a firsthand role in creating solutions to the issue.
